FastPlotPy: charts for Python and Jupyter
FastPlotPy brings the FastPlotJs chart families to Python, with interactive browser and Jupyter views and renderer-neutral scene generation. The first release is available on PyPI as 0.3.0a1.
Install the public alpha
Use Python 3.11 or newer. This pinned command installs the release currently described here:
python -m pip install fastplotpy==0.3.0a1The published wheel targets Windows x86-64. PyPI also provides a source distribution; installing it on other platforms can require a working Rust build toolchain. Check PyPI release files for availability.
Your first Python chart
Create a line chart with the public Python API. In Jupyter, displaying chart opens the interactive browser-backed view.
from fastplotpy import createChart
chart = createChart({
"type": "line",
"width": 800,
"height": 400,
"engine": "auto",
"data": [{"x": 0, "y": 12}, {"x": 1, "y": 18}],
"axes": {"show": True},
})
chart # Display in JupyterFor scene generation without a browser, use plot(options). The Python package provides the eleven chart families represented in the FastPlotJs gallery; the JavaScript examples on this site use JavaScript syntax and are not Python API documentation.
Browser and Jupyter interaction
The Python package includes a local browser frontend for Canvas, pointer and WebGL behavior. A loopback bridge connects the chart session to Python for state and callbacks. Zoom, selection, and other supported interactions run in the browser or Jupyter view. See the PyPI description for Python-specific behavior.
Alpha availability and limits
0.3.0a1 is a pre-release. Five 3D families remain experimental; native 3D PNG has Windows validation only. The Python source repository is private. Use the public PyPI package for installation and release details.
